At best a man can be, “mindful of his mind,” or “self-remember,” but for an instant. One moment he is totally “asleep,” then suddenly, he remembers his aim and method, and for a moment he is NOT asleep. Then in a flash he, (his mind), is asleep once more, and this scene will be repeated as long as his brain is alive.
Very few of those involved in such activities ever see what it is that they should have finally realized from their efforts. Thinking, saying anything to yourself concerning, “my mind” or “my thoughts” is a continuing guarantee that you will never catch-on to what’s going-on.
Letting your mental life slip by in this unconscionable and unprofitable manner will keep you confused, and unable to comprehend how humans can say and believe what they do, and why you cannot shake free of being their most impotent and frustrated critic. (This is not even taking into account your criticism of yourself.)
Just ponder that notion: YOUR criticism of YOU…and look at you. You can’t tell that you’re twins! It takes two to be confused, asleep and unenlightened, and it takes a confused, sleeping and unenlightened person to believe that he IS two. “Yeah, me AND my mind.” Yeah, right!
A most disabling idea: “I possess a mind – I have thoughts.”
A most potentially enabling phrase: “There is no mind.”
Just hold the concept: “This is not me thinking – this is thinking thinking.”
