97068-1

One man’s private, unpublished history-of-things goes like this:
“First, we’re all deaf and dumb, then we learn to think and speak, and move
on to being STUPID!”
He readily acknowledges that on the initial “drive by” this notion sounds
insane. But he further assures that, if you will but go around the block
several times and take additional looks at the matter, it is not as
ridiculous as it first sounds.

Though undetected by science, there are realms in which, the more you know,
the dumber you are. (The nice thing, if you’re concerned, is that you don’t
have to go there if you don’t want to.)

97068-2

Even while I’ve said that there are two realities, a Primary, physical one
and a Secondary one produce by man’s mind, the latter is actually imaginary,
but becomes a reality through men’s collective agreement that it is.
So, you see, it is and it is not real — according from where you view it.

The Heretofore Unexposed History Of Confidence Games
And Certain Collateral Swindles And Frauds

When Adam was given a talking awareness, along with it came the franchise
and ability to fool himself.

Another key to treasure maps commonly in use by certain explorers:

There is a particular thing that,
the more you search for it,
the harder it is to find.

And the parrot said to Long John, “Didn’t we know that already?”
“Yes,” he replied, “but as long as you sit on my head, I can never remember
that I do.”

And eye for an eye
and
and eye for an eye.

“What’s the one thing you can never see?” asked the iris of the lens.

97068-5

Does it matter if you’re continually “drowning” but don’t know it?
Does it even count if you’re continually drowning, but never die?
…In fact, is there anything that is of significance, if it turns out you
weren’t aware that it is?

The actual mental distinction between the enlightened and the ordinary
proves not to be what is normally thought and proclaimed. No, the
difference between what the two “know” is much more, and much, much less —
and different than the ordinary intellect can initially conceive.

97068-6,7

The more you concern yourself with Secondary affairs, the further you
remain from Primary ones.

…Simple, no? But hell, you know that already.
It’s the balance sheet, Bruno, the friggin’ balance sheet!

(Oh, I hear tell that one guy’s threatened to have tattooed in his palm,
“All Primary matters are inside of me — all Secondary ones external to me.”
Simple, no? But we’ve established that already yet. Now on to something
more mystically important, like what’s for dinner?)

One man pressed The Matter to the extent that he’d allow no song bird
outside his house — those he liked, he personally swallowed.

Conversation Number So-And-So, In A Continuing String Of Such

“Do you know what you’re doing?”
[Silence.]
“I said do you know what you’re doing?”
[Still, silence.]
“I’m asking you if you know what you’re doing. Why don’t you answer me?”
“I’m thinking about it.”
“Then never mind — you don’t!”

A father said to a son:
The way I see it is that all men could awaken, were it not for their love
of habit. And I must tell you that ‘love of habit’ is not a valid
description of what I refer to, that takes place in man and holds him
hostage. But if you look at it for yourself, you’ll agree that there is
no truly satisfying way to verbally detail what is happening in men in
this regard.
It proves to have two separate aspects. Knowing that you’re captive (and
of what) is one aspect. After that, having the strength and wiles to stay
out of its reach is another — and as it turns out, the most important
other.

The seekers of one expedition had a saying: “Just finally finding the map is
itself astoundingly rewarding, but then to actually ‘get to where you want
to go’ — and remain there! — well, that’s another adventure entirely.”

(These particular explorers kept this saying to themselves, after they
discovered that no one else wanted to hear it. For while they found it
encouraging, others found it just the opposite.)

The way to have a kingdom that is secure and at peace is to keep ever-alert
guards omnipresent around the full perimeter of its furthermost boundaries.

(Our next contestants are the team of Awareness and The Skull.)

From our “Dictionary For That Certain Purpose,” this entry:

Automobiles and Thoughts: The ultimate in physical and consciousness
diaspora.

In the world of man, it’s all thought.
And if you know thought, you’re at peace,
and if you don’t know thought, you’re tormented.

My worst nightmare turned out to be my best friend, and vice versa.

Another item from our combined dictionary of both the real and the imaginary.

Thought: Vapor lock in Valhalla.

97068-14

One day a boy came into the den where his father was reading and asked
him, “What’s the use in even being human if you can’t be fuckin’ up — and
know it — and keep right on goin’?”
And the elder laid the book down in his lap, and appeared to be deeply
pondering what the lad had said, then finally looked at him and replied,
“Would you be terribly offended if I took a fresh paternity test?”

97068-15

Continuing to cling to your thoughts is based on your belief that you can
ultimately change your thoughts, while the simple attempt to do so, and the
plain observation of the result, will reveal the foolishness of your belief.

Hidden deep within the above-noted, quite normal condition of men is the
dirty, little, ridiculous truth that men believe, if they can change what
they think or remember about a particular thing, they can somehow change the
thing or remembered event itself.
While this is usable lubricant in the Secondary Reality, it serves to
simply gum up the works in a man’s attempt to see and live there beyond.

97068-16

One man’s pro rata take on the matter:
“If I could, half of the time, do one fourth of what I know to do, I would
be surely ninety-nine percent awakened and done with it.”

97068-17

A man took a position in front of the crowd and shouted quite loudly, “Those
who give up deserve to die!”
And from within the throng, a voice called back, “Do you mean that
physically or allegorically?”
And the speaker responded, “Those who give up deserve to die!”

Moral: Why question the truth?
Moral: Why question foolishness?
Moral: What kind of idiot attempts to help by pissing on a urine fire?

97068-18-20

The title of the article announced “How To For Sure Lose Weight Through
Fasting,” and consisted of but these few words, “If you’re thinking about
eating, you won’t be eating.”
And the lad reading the story looked over to his father and asked, “Should
I be taking this as pertinent to the effort to awaken?”
And into his attendant spittoon the elder deposited an exuberant, positive,
and jolly response.

One day a lad asked his dad, “Is there some conclusive, all-encompassing
something that can be said regarding all debates as to what is foolishness
and idiocy, and what is not?”
“As a matter of fact, there is,” his father replied. “And it is this. If
you are Swiss, then everything German, Austrian, Italian, and French is
foolishness.”
And after a brief pause, the boy slapped himself on the forehead and
exclaimed, “My God, how simple — I can’t believe I’ve never seen it for
myself.”
But the elder comforted the lad by noting to him that everyone starts out
Swiss.

Efforts are only meaningful while you’re still in the position requiring
effort — success is exemplified by its effort-LESSNESS.

97068-27

Perhaps the most apt description of the essential, Primary, physical reality
would be its sense of permanency, while the telling word regarding the
Secondary, mental one is that is has none.

The twin realms:
flux-and-change
along with
stable-and-the-same.

A man’s expectations should be lowered when attempting to capture moths in a
sun storm.

97068-22

Any man who thinks himself wise, who is not a constant observer of the
moment, is a fool and prince of self-deception.

The body is sagacious, though uninstructed and silent, and while the mind
can speak and make certain claims for itself, the only evidence it can offer
in support thereof is simply additional, self-serving, self-made assertions.

Under conditions where “nothing ultimately matters,” neither does anything
in the interim.
(Of course the trick to being able to use this is to be able to see the
ultimate, and be not transfixed by the transitory.)

Scratched on the rocks of a cemetery wall, a man found these words:
“You live — you die — you rot!”
But a more expansive view, his, rewrote the message to read:
“You live — you die — you think — thus live another day — then die
another day — then live again, and so on.”

Okay — Time To Diagram Yet Another “Problem”

Without a remembered past, men would have no problems; men wouldn’t have a
past if they didn’t manufacture one.

(Okay, again, I grant you, not much of a diagram, but again I must point
out, not much of a problem.)

Another Dialogue Between Two Voices

Why do men suffer uncertainty and lack of self-confidence in what they do?
“Because of their height?”
No.
“Because of their age?”
No.
“Because of their education?”
No. They suffer from uncertainty and lack of self-confidence in what they
do because they THINK about what they do.
“That cannot be so.”
You didn’t let me finish my comment. They suffer uncertainty and lack of
self-confidence in what they do because they think about what they do
without the realization that such thinking comes after the action, while
they treat it as otherwise, which anyone should be able to see can be the
source of great confusion.
Men love to repeat the adage “don’t put the cart before the horse,” while
never applying this to the one circumstance within themselves which gives
rise to their feelings of uncertainty and lack of self-confidence.
Horses living au naturel have no doubts as to the proper equine existence,
it is only when men’s mentally contrived carts are to them attached that
hesitations and uncertainties appear.
All-in-all, let me say to you, let the horse run free. Your imaginary
mastery of him is the source of all your confusion.

A man asked a mystic, “What does it take to be a mystic?”
“A trickier tongue than those who listen to you,” he answered.
“Hmmm,” pondered the man. “Would that hold true for your own belief that
you have your own mystic in you?”
“Oh, doubly so!” he replied.

97068-26

One man liked to periodically “get away from it all.” Until he realized
that he alone was “all.” And eventually went beyond even this to recognize
that there is no “him” apart from the “all.”

(Amongst some, this is known as the ULTIMATE vacation.)

– – –

Over in the garden, a man notes (regarding his personal horticultural
situation) that, even though he no longer believes that he is hindered by
external entanglements, he is not yet fully free from thinking about and
remembering their illusion, and thus still suffers a form of captivity.

To
stay indoors —
in yourself —
is to be an
incurable invalid.

97068-27

As he sat in his library, happily thumbing through some books, a certain man
was so struck, “Even as much fun as the mind can provide, being uneducated,
even illiterate, is no barrier to an acceptable life amongst
Cheshire Cats,
White Rabbits,
and Queens with anything BUT reason on their hearts.”

97068-28

In a secret pocket, one man kept a note to himself that said, “When you have
anything in your hands, you should think of nothing other than what you have
in your hands.”

– – –

And a lad asked his dad, “What would happen if everyone, all of the time,
did what they some of the time knew they should be doing.”
“Why, the whole world would then be awake and enlightened,” he replied,
“thus finally rendering all such concepts once and for all, beyond any
question, meaningless.”
“Hmmm,” pondered the lad to himself. “All of that happening to a given
thing, simply due to the thing becoming a matter of common knowledge.
Hmmm…is that strange and curious, or what?”
“Certainly not what!” rebounded the elder.

* * *

97065-29

The difference between a costume and a uniform is the distinction between
those who know what thought is about and those who don’t.

97068-30

The speaker so assaulted his audience, “How do ya figure this: animals who
can’t talk to themselves never make nonphysical faux pas?”
And after a perfunctory, pondering-appearing silence, from the crowd a voice
arose to ask, “Might there be something in the fact that a human could put
to use?”
And the speaker’s face suddenly turned bright yellow, and he began to jump
up and down and wave his arms wildly as if trying to fly. And just as it
seemed that he might actually become airborne, he exploded! — into millions
of little pieces, and became his own new audience.

Some years later, a man was reading about this event (just herein reported),
and after doing so several times, and after much reflection on its possible
message, he concluded that it certainly had such, but that as is so often
the case in this nonroutine area of human interest, the words used to tell
the story do, in some tricky-to-define-way, tend to obscure its soul and
substance, rather than expose it.
And after even more prolonged study of this matter, the man decided that,
even though the matters in question initially seem vague and unspecific,
that metaphorical and indirect attempts to deal with them are not truly the
best approach; more promising would to try to convey their essence via
either the plainest speech possible, silence, or obvious gibberish.

97068-31

When one man heard it said that life is but a dream, he thought, “Yes, if
you live only in a dream, but if you do not, then you live both in a dream
and not in a dream.”

97068-32

The pre-echo on the phonograph record that is man’s consciousness that came
the instant just before Adam thought “I am Adam,” was, “I am silently what I
am, with no question as to what I am.”

Thus it is that everyone “is,” before they “think” that they “is” — same as
everyone “do,” long before they know that they do.

Come on, man, leave the analogous and digital ages — get with it — mere
representations of what’s hap’nin’ are no longer sufficient.

97068-33-35

Man’s normal, mental life is one of incessantly grasping at the tails of
deceased snakes.

“It’s just one thing after another,” whined neurons.
At which sentiment stomach mused, “True, but too bad you’re not able to
fathom this without mentioning it, and thus bringing on yourself those
nonphysical, nonfatal afflictions of which you constantly complain.”

Who but a fool would continue to expect the discovery of “real cures” for
imaginary ills?

The only way to escape the hold of a mirage is to shoot it, or else abandon
the vicinity in which it prevails.

A man asked a mystic, “Do you really know what you’re talking about?”
And he replied, “Under two conditions I do: when I talk, and when I do not
talk.” “Which, I’m aware, sounds foolish, but those who know what I usually
talk about will understand what I mean.”

Privately, one man considered an alternative approach, “Well, if I can’t
stop frivolous thoughts, why not go ahead and pile ’em on?” “If you’re
truly dealing in the imaginary,
the more!
the less!
what does it matter?
It’s all the merrier once you stop taking any of it seriously.”

A Simplified Version

A man, who believes anything that he can’t touch, will never awaken —
that’s “never,” as in n – e – v – e – r — never.

97068-36

The reason men so love to talk about “the truth” and passionately debate
it is because they know that no such thing exists.

Who wants a hobby with an expiration date?

97068-37

A stranger said to a man who had come to him seeking new direction, “Once
you understand that there is nothing that can be done to profitably change
your Primary Reality, and nothing that can be profitably done to change
things in man’s Secondary Reality, which is of its very essence invented and
illusionary, then how can you stand there claiming that you still seek
change?” “Change where? Change how? Do you not realize how foolish you
sound?”

97068-38,39

The ordinary consciousness of all men is both awakened and asleep…but only
the awakened know this.

And someone demands, “You mean to tell me that the only difference between
someone who’s drowning and someone who’s not is that the man who’s not is
aware that he’s not?”
“Is that what you’re trying to say? What nerve! — what presumption! —
what insanity! WHAT AN IDEA!”

The original quid pro quo was man being given the ability to think, so as
to make life easier (as perceived by most), in return for which a few find
otherwise.

97068-40

Never should you forget that the basic purpose and payoff of awakening is
the removal of all uncertainty and confusion — after that it is up to you
to provide the strength to make use of this freedom.

97068-41

If there be no need to grasp the transient within the permanent, just the
opposite must be so for those attempting to do what they set out to do.

97068-42

Awakening is not for the hip, fashionable, and sophisticated —
it’s hard to get with it
when you’re already with it!

(But, hey, not to worry. No one’s as hip as they think they are…except
the extremely dumb…which of course leaves you out…)

97068-43

One man began to picture thoughts as “tourist traps for consciousness.”

And “stay out of such places” became his advice to himself.
