#959 Apr 13, 1992 – 1:00
Notes by TK

Speech is like a bridge between the necessary Primary Level World and the Secondary Level World, making the transition more palatable. It is a kind of cushion against the new necessity of being civilized, of civilization. The Secondary Level World is a kind of unending dissatisfaction which speech in some way assuages. All that is available to man is whining/seriousness, but it’s a real comfort-bridge nonetheless between the two worlds.

The News

Believing that since you don’t know — NO one knows is an ability that transcends all nationalistic and religious boundaries.

***

If ordinary men did not criticize the way life works, it couldn’t work as well as it does.

***

In intellectual affairs: Critical mass is reached when certainty/stupidity has been passed.

***

If a real thinker writes, he never writes about himself. (Verse Two): If a real thinker thinks, he “tra-la-la-la la’s.”

***

While on a combination picnic and intellectual retreat, one mother squirrel told her brood, “Any judgement of man should carry an alternative ‘Rain Date’.”

***

Using the sky as a mirror, one man looked up and asked, “Okay, being alive proves you can suffer — but now what?!”

***

In an attempt to get the people to see what was going on in there, the mayor of one progressive city issued this statement, “Yesterday were reports of hail — some the size of cliches.”

***

…then Kyroot read another entry from the Revolutionist Dictionary: City Intellectual: A man who can turn his back on the obvious.

***

One of yesterday’s park speakers had this to say to the crowd: “The two greatest motivators of an educated, sophisticated man are fear and fear.” (After a slight pause he added this), “Although for all of you educated and sophisticated men out there who might care to slip me a five or ten-er I could change it in your case to be ‘fear and boredom’.” …(The sound of billfolds opening could be heard from many blocks away.)

***

Hormones do the dancing, feet just get the blame.

***

…and Kyroot noted: Another way to consider the distinction between revolutionist ideas and what ordinary men call “new ideas” is that this latter, routine version is always still tied to old thinking in some manner or the other; either attempting to replace it, expand it, or correct it, none of which is of any interest to real futuristic mentation.

***

Neo Neuro-Zoo-o finding (as yet unpublished, for the safety of our fine children): The reason elephants and alligators live so long is due to their excellent memory.

***

Since the primary world controls matters of life and death, any struggle between it and the secondary is severely one-sided, and to compensate for this imbalance the latter is permitted to criticize the former without it being able to respond.

***

After seeing the turmoil stirring below, the king cried out to the heavens, “After the facts comes the deluge.” (He then wondered if he’d wandered into the wrong scene.)

***

…and Kyroot added yet further, “Definition To Insult (Or Is It Injury?)”: Being civilized is to actively participate in your condemnation. …(And a viewer writes: “Then I don’t see any way out!” You’re not supposed to. [And thanks for writing.])

***

Along with their Monday morning juice the ole man gave the kid this tidbit, “Other than applies to automotive mechanics, the odds on this week’s game, and making correct change, ordinary men don’t really want to ‘know’ anything — they just want somebody else’s belief to adopt.”

***

Employing heretofore unrealized statistical methods of historical survey, one chap has determined that all of the world’s truly “Great thinkers” all either had three names, or else just one….and some, two.

***

And the afternoon mail delivery turned up this letter to the Advice Doctor: “Dear Doctor: Why are ropes slack and poles rigid?” Dear Sir: Do you plan to go up, or down hill?”

***

During an afternoon quietness, an older rebel sergeant told some younger troopers, “Anyone who can be ‘overcome by grief’ or any other human emotion can’t ever be much of a revolutionist I’m afraid.”

***

Life is constantly making up new dance steps; (it often does so right after someone dies.) …(Okay, I will give you a hint: Yes, it does have some metaphorical reference to human thought processes. …[“Oh Captain,” cried some of the passengers, “we just l-o-v-e it whenever you get all…..all — well, all blatant and obvious! Uuu! — we just love it so!”])

***

This morning a man ran past the speaker’s area of city park yelling out, “Men with nothing better to do rule the world.”

***

In this three dimensional reality, life has provided sex for people to have a primary friend. It has also offered you a mind so as to have a secondary one.

***

Telling other people what they should be thinking and feeling has got to be one of life’s favorite hobbies — WHAT?!! — NO?! — It’s your’s TOO?! — What a coincidence.

….. …oh yeah, (although it’s probably not necessary), I might remind you that if you are going to “tell other people what they should do,” be sure and do so in a serious manner, or it’s a bigger waste of time than ever.

***

Then Kyroot presented this chapter of, “Mythological Logic Myth-applied”: Prisoners can’t be happy; prisoners too dumb to know that they are, could be; prisoners who actually know what’s going on might also be an exception. …(But Kyroot added: If I were you, I still wouldn’t bet the family cow on any of it though. …[The happy children in one universe used to frolic around the temple singing the song in praise of the fisherman who was s-o-o good and kind at removing hooks.])

***

Some of you asked me to remind you of this again in a month or so — so, here ’tis: You’re born with all you need — after that it’s all a matter of upkeep.

***

A correspondent writes: “My brother watches your show and he calls what you talk about, ‘mental steroids’ — what’da ya think of that?!”

***

Wise words from a Wise Father (or at least City Words from a City Father): An old man who had truly “been around,” and with a good knowledge of the vagaries and uncertainties of human politics, economic systems, and strategic alliances said to his maturing son, “Diarrhea alone is no cause to change your nationality.”

***

After Fate obviously “sings,” the band generally takes a break.

***

…then Kyroot pulled out even more “new-math-for-city-problems”: Whining will get you out of any unpleasant situation; whining won’t help a damn bit; but if you’ll whine you won’t care anyway. (Dah-Dah!)

***

In 3-D civilizations, aging hormones pass for wisdom.

***

A chap in the park says, “Man has had at least five thousand years of psychological suffering, (that he’s written about), so how come he hasn’t yet worked it out? As a thoughtful, modern human being this bothers me — this bothers me a LOT.”

***

Those who “know” the primary world know that there is nothing to say; and those who know the secondary, know that there is nothing to say that means much.

***

Gazing out of his city hall window one day, the mayor fell a bit philosophical and thought, “Sometimes I DO believe that the happiest of the people down there are the crooks and the con men.” …(He didn’t like thinking such things, and he wasn’t quite sure what it signified, and worse yet, he strongly suspected he might be correct.)

***

Regarding “excuses,” the revolutionist has a certain advantage in that his use of same usually provides a headache at no additional cost.

***

And now for another of Commandante Tresillio’s City Commentaries, (well, not another, this is actually the first one, and it’s not really Commandante Tresillio, it’s just Kyroot in some kind of hokey looking rented military costume, but we do the best with what we got, eh gang) — So, the Commandante comments: (a): The only thing better than having somebody else speak for you is to have somebody else think for you; (b): Everyone has people helping them think.

***

…and Kyroot noted: Being “civilized” has not turned out to be exactly as man had pictured……..but it never HAS;
…(which is part of its beauty.)

***

Before they’d head off for permanent city life, one old man would advise all his children, “Those who think the least, should give the most attention to personal grooming.” …(In fact, over in another solar system a whole religion sprung up around this idea: It was known by the name, “God Loves A Cheerful Dresser.”)

***

And a gentleman asks: “As you get older why does the closet get smaller?”

***

If three dimensional universes run on the struggle between constructive & destructive energies, then stardust is the “ultimately unaligned.”

***

And the Whisper Man from his alleyway position, sent out today’s alley message: “There are three things man does not want to think about: the ‘chemistry of the mind’; the metaphorical nature of zoos, and the ‘chemistry of the mind’.”

….. …one man said: “There is nothing that I will not think about!” (And his thinking partner declined to respond to this outburst.)

***

In man’s secondary world, things that “don’t work” can still work. …(And Big K. added: Those of you with ultra keen eyesight can shoot the word “can” in the above sentence, and ship its body home to mama.)

***

And the Advice Doctor received another letter — this one goes: “Dear Doctor: Is it possible to ‘be on the right track’ and not know it?” “Dear Sir: Two answers: ‘Yes,’ and, ‘Everybody’s on the right track’.”

***

The old zoo keeper noted to his apprentice, “Once you can get the animals to feel guilty about being captured, then my boy you’ve got ’em — then you’ve got ’em good.”

….. …and Kyroot noted: In certain mythical lands-yet-to-be, those who serve in the religious institutions are selected from the fields of veterinary medicine and wild game management.

***

…and Kyroot & the revolution said together: Everyone has had some great ideas, but they don’t know what to do with them.

***

Hormones do the dancing, feet just get the blame, or take the credit. …(We’ll keep doing it ’til you get it right.)

***

That new tag-team of speakers over in city park had this to say last Tuesday: First team speaker: “Science picks up where religion leaves off.” To which the second member added: “And religion has yet to leave off.”

***

The vice-mayor of one modern city noted: “In a land where rats can be called squirrels, and death be called sleep — any thing is possible!”

***

Few people can look directly at the obvious and ever see much of anything.

***

One ole man told the kid, “Save your sympathy for seaweed and anemone. Though they may be at the bottom of the physical food chain, there is every reason to suspect that man is the ground floor in the thinking one.”

***

A man who thinks of himself in religious, racial or nationalistic terms is certainly thinking about himself all right.

***

When he realized what being alive was actually all about, this one man had to completely revise his conception of what “humor” was.

***

As regards man’s ordinary life: Those who “see what’s going on” and care, don’t yet see what’s actually going on. …(“And,” noted one fine city, “doesn’t this make life interesting.”)

***

…and Kyroot observed: The secondary’s “secret game” is to eventually somehow overtake the primary.

***

A certain king, who wanted to be much, much more, told all of himself, his family and court to always remember that everyone else is r-e-a-l important, and that they are not worth mentioning; everyone else is real important because everyone else believes they are. …(A friend of His Majesty [who had recently been out of the country] wonders just how far you can “push” hormones without the danger of a lash-back?….)

***

One chap’s latest comment: “The best thing about being an intellectual is that you can walk to work.”

***

…and Judge Kyroot handed down this decision: Under civilized city law, men are not allowed to use the only defense that is actually valid. …(And is this not just another oblique description OF civilization?!)

***

Stardust never takes sides.

***

Escape from a swamp is not all that simple, in that wetlands can move right along with he attempting to flee. …(And as always, and as all of you know by now, even that which at first verbally may sound discouraging has, for a revolutionist’s use, another better “up-side.” [For instance, in this instant case, just note that]: This coming Friday you’ll get a free lube with every oil change.)

***

An old sarge in one rebel camp said, “A revolutionist with a slogan, motto or favorite proverb is just asking for it!”

***

Those who ponder the structure of finite reality and come to the conclusion of “predestination” do not understand the nature of growth.

***

One daddy neural bundle told his little batch of kiddie synapses, “Men with minds have two lips for the same reason that ice cream parlors have chocolate and vanilla.” …(Rebel’s child rearing tip number nothing: A kid with a cone in each hand who’ll still demand a dish of Neapolitan is a nipper to be watched.)

***

As long as you can still enjoy feeling bad you don’t have to worry about the revolution.

***

Then attempting to put on its best face, the city said to the stranger, “It’s kinda hard to take a real likin’ to you if you won’t tell us what kinda guy you are.”

***

A street corner speaker paced his course near an intersection and proclaimed, “Man’s future is in the stars; man’s history, in the heavens……” (He then paused — seemingly uncertain as to where to go from there.)

***

Then Kyroot told another, “Once Upon A Time Don’t-You-Wish Tale”: Once upon a time the people went to this one man and said, “If you’ll do all our thinking for us we’ll make you king.” And he replied, “I’ll think about it.”

***

…and Kyroot noted: Although he’d never admitted it publicly, one god said he didn’t personally much care for some of his creatures’ ideas.

***

Soon after the ship was free of their native planet’s gravitational pull the captain addressed the crew: “Any who were going to suffer should have stayed at home.”

***

A certain ole man says he’s holding off sending his kid to college until he finds one that offers a combined degree in Zoology & Cosmology.

***

Any wondrous idea that can offer a shred of evidence to support it is not wondrous enough for a revolutionist. …(Okay, I know, some of you want the advanced version, okay: “Any wondrous idea that would even offer any evidence in support of itself…….”)

***

Whenever stardust wants to dance it looks around for man.

***

You might care to note that man’s secondary world, as opposed to the “necessariness” of the primary one, is but a game, and the only one in which the players are allowed to make up the rules as they go along, AND act as official Scorekeepers.

***

A certain frontal lobe addressed a graduating goo field: “If you take on the responsibility of writing a dictionary just remember this: That’s the only job you’ll ever have.”

***

Over near the fashion district a guy said, “Anyone who acts seriously is an idiot!……unless they’ve been elected to public office, and then don’t tell ’em I said that.”

***

One city told its kid, “Everyone has an imaginary playmate, and YOU’RE your’s.”

***

And this communique from an interested correspondent: “Dear Kyroot: Would you please explain this to me then: Why have absolutely all — each and every all — of history’s greatest, most respected thinkers and leaders had nothing but pessimistic and condemnable things to say about man?” …(Side note: It’s still sometimes, semi-interesting how close people can actually come without hurting themselves.)

***

According to one myth, there was once a band of neural revolutionists who had as their battle cry, “We defy the forces of turgidity and slowness.” (Which, we might note and agree IS the purpose of the rebellion.)

***

…and Kyroot began a tale: Two brothers once moved into a new universe trying to peddle their wares; one offered Info, and the other, Relief. (You take it from there.)

***

What they really found surprising was how quiet it all got after the fighting had stopped.
