“Big moves cover small ones”. Words are a magical form of this. Every word covers its own defined area (dictionary definition) but also covers any other neural territory needed by the speaker or listener (same thing). This is the reality behind “miscommunication” . Words pull in the peripheries, associations and connotations necessary to fuel neural processes and stabilize them in the listener / speaker. Words change the scope of what’s going on. An infinite space/time of evening ballroom dress is captured-revealed by a telltale bit of petticoat.
Law: talking about something makes it sound more serious (important). Why are religious beliefs/tenants discussed from time immemorial? What is truly serious needs no discussion. What, serious, in your life, have you ever not talked about? Talking is the equivalent to water for the fish—the air that humans breathe. People would not take SL/secondary level affairs seriously if they couldn’t talk about them.

Tiger Rag isù feasible.” “Yeah, but for guys like you that’s why
I say ‘three’, and call it a joke.”

Words are the ultimate magic in big moves cover small moves.
Picture opposing armies; and one general comes up with some,
actually meaningless movement of large numbers of troops. A big
moves, that the oppposing general can see no military purpose
for, that acually covers some smaller move that perhaps urns out
to be the pivotal point in winning the battle. The specific point
that I want you to try to see is really titallating if you live
in the right part of the universe, and that is words themselves
are a ultimate, and magical, form of big moves cover small moves.
It goes like this; every word covers not only its own defined
area, by dictionary definition, but it also covers any other
neural territory needed by the speaker/listener.
Let me make up an example. Say there is a TV show hosting a
debate between a fundamentalist minister, a humanist, and a
policeman, about satanic influences, devil worship. Let us say
that the minister is the less glib of the three, that verbally he
almost is overwhelmed by the humanist who is an attorney, and the
show host is pretty quick with his tongue, and the policeman at
least carries a gun. After some time the minister reaches a point
where he almost has to admit that the term satanic influence may
not be totally appropriate. The attorney and the policeman point
out that a lot of what goes on is done by mischievious kids who
know less about satanism than they do about English lit, and who
are otherwise from respectable families. For them it is more
like a joke. After eveybody has kind of poo-pooed the minister’s
alarm over the devil running wild on earth, the minister finally
gets to the point where he can not defend his original definition
of the term satanic. He finally says to the others, “OK, I am not
going to push the term satanic influence, but you have to see
that there is, in man’s nature, the inclination to behave in an
uncivil manner, an unchristian manner, to act maliciously. I am
not going to insist that you use the word satanic, just look at it
as there is evil in the world”. That would change the way that
the debate had been going. Apparently the minister under pressure
has had to shift into a new area, has had to abandon the term as
he originally defined it. Internally he has moved and has pulled
in other territory. Internally he is saying, “If you people want
to call it something else, ok. But let’s stay on the subject.
Let’s don’t lose sight of what we are talking about.”
Another example. Something happens to two lovers that one of
them thinks is of no great consequence. He tells her that he will
be home at the regular time. She then prepares a surprise party
for him when he gets home. But he does not come until much later
than expected, and by then all the food she prepared has gotten
cold or hot, or whatever. When he finally shows up she has to
point out what has happened. She goes through a few little songs
and dances and then verbally she says, “It may not seem like a
big deal to you, but I feel very betrayed.” It is not just the
ordinary definition of “I am hurt” that is being used now. The angry
lover in a sense has now moved into territories in her, or his,
own brain where they now are refering to unspecified complaints.
Perhaps all the complaints they have had up to this point against
the other partner, but it comes out at what seems to be a very
specific time, in one area. They are going into neural areas in
their own brain with, in a sense, every complaint they ever had
with the other party.
Can you not see the magic in this? Everybody is wired uyp to
do this, it is part of the magic of talk. Remember that in the
beginning I said that words cover not only their defined area,
but also all necessary neural territories needed by the
speaker/listener, because they are the same thing. To deal in
ordinary talk is to draw in not only what you say, but it is
also, in a nonspecific, unrecognized way to draw in all necessary
corollaries, peripharies, and associates. It is to draw in all
that is necessary to fuel your current neural moves and to help
stablize your current position. It seems to come out as being
very specific, “You cheated me”, and of course if it is important
to you it IS important, but you are not saying just that, you are
saying everything else. It is a magical big move inside. Outside
it appears to be a little move, “You hurt me”, but that is of
just very minor consequence; the big move is that you draw in
every possible association, every connotation, things that would
be insane if they were suddenly brought to verbalization, and
nobody sees it. The real magic is there is a move going on that
is so big that it is incomprehensible, and it actually hides
itself. Here is how big it is, it is as big as your own brain.
This is right at it, and we can call this our Friday Law,
“Talking about something makes it sound more serious.” Try this.
Is there anything serious in your life, or in life in general
that you have never talked about? As long as you are being used
to transmit the energies inherent in whatever the subject is,
then the more you talk about it the more you fuel it. It
continues to support the seriousness of it, until it gets to the
point it is no longer validly feeding the serious aspect, that is
when you lose interest. This is like a great smog, it touches
everything. Ordinary people are accustomed to think that religion
is a very serious business, big time serious. Think about it
another way. Would religion be as serious a matter if you had
never heard it talked about? I’ll give you a hint. No. Ordinary
intelligence has historically taken religion as a serious matter,
but is that what is really going on? It is not the words
themselves, that would be the small move, it is the seriousness
of it. Talking about anything makes it more serious. And lest we
forget, if you are ordinary what do you talk about most? How is
your autobiography coming? Out in life people take themselves
seriously. Not in some neurotic sense, but their opinions, their
ideas. One way to make it more serious is to talk about it.
How would humans take any secondary matters seriously if they
did not talk about them? You do not have to talk about primary
matters. People only discuss dining, people do not discuss
eating. People discuss love, they do not discuss fucking. At the
primary level you are beyond small or big moves, and it is beyond
any idea of serious or not serious. It is the minimal kinds of
energy, and attention that you must pay to your own energy, to
keep your collective organism together. But no one could take any
secondary activity seriously if they could not talk about it.
Think about it. And the more you talk about it the more serious
it sounds. No matter how silly something seems, if you talk about
it long enough it will eventually become serious. That is why
everything that is not absolutely wired to the floor as being
necessary, humanity has to talk about.
