There is no certainty as to the talent of an individual in his Secondary Level interests as opposed to the certainty of Primary Level talent, because it is self-referential. Therefore the SL activity is always unfounded and always open/subject to criticism and disappointment. Criticism at the PL is never unfounded; it cannot be hidden or denied. The same is true of PL vs. SL of ideas.
PL ideas are directly related to primary energy flow realities in life. SL ideas are reflections, diluted versions of primary ones. PL ideas would be arithmetic to SL trigonometry. There is no frame of reference beyond the idea itself at the SL; thus it is very fragile and prone to prove unsatisfying, disappointing, no matter who criticizes it. This is not so of the PL.
Rigid people operate at the Secondary idea level exclusively; they are simplistic. Fanatical, unalterable, “self-evident” ideas are simplistic and of no use to the RR because they are SL. Hobbies are extremely simplistic; nobody can stand too much complexity in their hobby; it becomes more trouble than it’s worth, won’t take the edge off the pressure of ordinary City life. City life must be simplistic and rigid or it would fall apart.
Even amid the ever increasing complexity of modern technology, a man quickly learns “what’s what”, the true from the false, or he can’t operate. If old intelligence could expand outside the boundary of a single lifetime it would see how everything connects.
