Except in Problem Solving, Consciousness & Thoughts Not In Sync

The following recordings are from Jan’s final years, when his voice was diminished and he spoke in a low whisper. Some listeners may find these tapes hard to listen to, or difficult to understand. Thus, as another option, transcripts are being made and will be posted.

Otherwise, turn up the volume and enjoy! Those who carefully listened to Jan during this period consider that he spoke plainly and directly to the matter at hand, “pulling out all the stops,” as he understood that these were to be his last messages to his groups, and to posterity.

Summary

1/14/05:
Notes by TK

Consciousness and thoughts are not in sync; they are disruptively uncoordinated, except when engaged in solving an external problem. It is the job of consciousness to be in touch with the here and now; daydreaming thought is not tasked so, is not fast enough for that and too easily distracted from the present. Is there any way to force thought to match consciousness? Make the thinking limit itself and report, via continual inner monologue, what consciousness is registering in the present instant. A Trail Guide For Those Who’ll Never Stop Walking
JANUARY 14, 2005 © 2005: JAN COX

Ordinary man is made to think of his existence as being of supreme importance
in the overall scheme of things; his belief in the supernatural sanctity of
human life is a necessary background for Life’s continued expansion;
this notion is tied to his mental conception of his inner intangible self as a thing;
his personality as an object, and one distinct from the others about him.
Physically living in civilized circumstances is clearly a collective undertaking,
but man’s incorporeal life is not so easily recognized – especially as it plays out inside of an individual man’s brain.
It’s difficult for a carnally oriented roman to realize that he is spiritually also Italian.
(“Yes, I can see how my body is related to everyone else’s body,
but my mind, by Zeus, is my own.”
And so Caesar continues to go down swinging.)

The maps-of-words are expediently employed at specific times to convey specific ideas, but once the ideas are grasped, the words may be abandoned.
(“May?”
May.)

What ordinary consciousness attempts via words is to grab the never-still
processes of reality and hold them to be solid, consistent forms.
Squeezing verbs into nouns: this is the construction technique used in erecting man’s intangible, second reality.

If solicited: one guy will verbally agree to do anything,
then physically fail to ever follow through.
Question: How does that approach strike you?

There are Two Ignorances: the Smaller & the Greater:
the Smaller consists of believing you know what manner of thing you be,
and the Greater is in believing that you are a thing.

Those who believe Life amiss are themselves amiss.

Though fallacious in the physical realm, in man’s intangible, artistic/spiritual one,
‘tis true: lightning can only strike twice in the same spot.
(“You gotta get ’em while they’re hot!”
“What?”
“The hots.”)
What makes consciousness’ second-reality-restaurant a unique dining establishment
is that the atmosphere is everything – not figuratively, but literally –
the atmosphere is everything – it in fact is all there IS.

One man ponders: “Would you ever know that there’s anything wrong with life
if you were never told about it?”

Unconventional Medical News.
There is a certain malady that only movement will cure.

At the top of every hour one man announces in his brain:
“This is station WME broadcasting totally beyond my control.”

Each man’s ordinary “I” is but the mechanical termination point of the
nervous system’s standard circuitry. (What a shocking thing to consider!)

Being one of the many consists of thinking and talking about Life as others do;
of conceiving it to be made up of separate occurrences and divisible pieces,
while being one of the few is in seeing Life as it is: an unending, undivided, omnipresent process.

That which falls, arises, and that which leaves, returns; only immutable forms
could act otherwise and no such forms have been seen by the few.

Only the few know “I” as a verb – not a noun.

To be properly hit – one must be blind-sided, and part of the profit of such an unexpected strike is in being made aware that one has a blind side.
(“Yeah – back in ’83 it seemed for a while that a part of my mind had waked up…..
least a bit……more or less…..I guess.”)

A quite fitting snap shot of ordinary man is him purchasing a caged bird from a priest
to release for spiritual reward – not the release of his inner self, but as always,
of something outside his self;
and not the study of his own consciousness but of a deity he has conjured up
to stand in for same.
The few are constantly bemused by consciousness’ antics.
(Which makes one man muse: “How can that be!?”)

One indication of a real artist is his lack of comment on his work.

Ordinary men’s acceptance that: love-is-a-hurting-thing offers to the keen-of-eye
further evidence of his destiny to suffer, in that this love which he proclaims to be
the supreme goal of his personal and spiritual aspirations
is itself a constant source of discomfort and disappointment.
(“How would it be if hormones stuck with hormones and neurons with neurons?”
Well for one thing: there would be no poetry, country music, divorce lawyers,
or religions.
“Or civilization?!”
Very good.)

Nothing in ordinary Life is permitted to be totally satisfying,
for if it were, it would be deadly.

The real change that comes from realizing what’s going on has no connection to an individual’s time, place or circumstances – although he must be able to untangle
his self from such to ever experience the real change.

Going on ceaselessly is a dance involving the Creative, Destructive and E-relevant Forces in which the Creative never criticizes the others – only devours them.
Thus when you are being critical you have placed yourself in the arms of a most dangerous dance partner.
On one world, trying to correct and help people in the intangible realm is known as:
self lobotomy.

A man with two watches never knows the correct time and a man with two masters
is never sure of his duties; could this have any relevance to a man and the maps
he holds of his inner terrain?
The real Magellans use no charts but of their own design.
“But that’s not possible.”
It would certainly seem that way from any rational perspective….. but nevertheless.

An ever-present unrecognized blunder for the few is in believing that what is
intangibly happening to the many is happening to you personally:
realizing this explains many things and takes away a useless load.

“Those who say what god-did give instant and conclusive proof that they have no idea what has occurred.”
“But does anyone?”
“Even if they don’t, what I just said still applies.”

The inside of consciousness is the realm of the certain man; the factual mystic,
the real philosopher, the truly alert human being;
if you don’t know what’s going on with consciousness –
you’ll never understand what’s going on.

In the city, talk is mostly a substitute for having nothing to do.
