Begin: No one can say for sure they are totally awake, enlightened, or understand everything. There is no way to know. ( A throw away that has nothing to do with this is that maybe as you get closer to awakening is that you can just barely tolerate the sound of the human voice and that includes your own.)

And even though you cannot say for sure you are totally awake its valid to say that words are in opposition to awakening. It is also true to say you cannot awaken without words or ideas about awakening (gradual or sudden).

A way to approach the idea of awakening is to select words without a physical counterpart (second reality words- ex., compassion, God, Love, etc. ) and investigate why humans came up with the word. Use words where you already know the definitions.

05:00 Picture this morning there was no word for compassion and picture the circumstances where the word came into being (Ex. Compassion is the word for someone stopping and helping someone on the road.) Why, what, and how did the human mind come up with words without any physical counterpart?

There is not one answer. How did humans come up with a concept for self? (ex. “me” v. John Smith)
Everyone cannot call themselves “Me” because it would be confusing and argumentative. (ex. I’m “me” and the other guy says no you are not, I’m “me”.)

One of my most bountiful words was the word “awakening”. When I investigated the word I learned very quickly it was not the only word for the concept. It was also called the great liberation, enlightenment, a higher state of consciousness, and cosmic consciousness just to name a few.

Why did the collective mind of men have a few men come up with a separate name (awakening, enlightenment, great liberation etc.) for the mind? And the other six billion people have no interest in the word or concept of awakening.

10:00 Consider the word “belief”. You probably say the word believe once everyday. Why is there such a word? How is belief important to your physical survival? (Your mind will come up with something if you are not careful.) What does “belief” represent?

15:00 It is unquestionable that the purpose of the mind is to help us physically survive, thrive, and stay healthy. But consider a lion is getting ready to eat you. How is “belief” going to help you. Physically based imaging is not what I am referring to. (ex. I will pick up a rock or stick and hit him.)

Second reality belief ( no physical counterpart) might say “ I believe it is a good day to die.” I am assuming you are getting the point.

Life produced beliefs of God and compassion hold the herd together and help stabilize civilization. The whole purpose of civilization is to make survival more likely.

But investigate the word “belief” from outside the needs of civilization. Investigating words in this manner have been much more useful to me than any mystical study.

20:00 Do not let the investigation of words stop with just one word. Initially I latched on to the words knowledge and understanding. People use the words knowing and understanding interchangeably. But there is a difference that most people are aware of.

Physically speaking you can know what a carburetor looks like, but not understand how the engine works. Second reality (no physical counterpart) speaking you can write a book about what you know about zen and not understand it as well as someone who is wired up to understand it.

25:00 So there is a difference between knowing and understanding. I wrestled with this for a long time before realizing that second reality knowing and understanding is imaginary. So why did we come up with the idea of knowing and understanding for second reality and what does it represent?

Why is there a distinction between knowing and understanding in things that do not exist? Why can you know something entirely invented by the mind (ex. Philosophy) and not understand it? How can you know what knowing and understanding means in second reality when it means nothing.

But it does mean something. “Understanding” is seeing through knowledge. I saw it in two stages after the fact. Why did I initially agree that there is a difference between knowing and understanding in second reality matters (Ex. Philosophy etc. ) and how, why, and where did it come from?

It came from seeing past the words ( knowledge ) and then it came from seeing through the words ( understanding ). Seeing through the words requires you to understand what the mind is. Which is nothing. The mind is whatever is in it And what is in the mind? Words!

30:00 You have got to see through the words to see all the way to understanding. It is beneficial, fun, and seeing through the words is not limited to direct questions. What is going on with life that life oozed out of humans and made humans come up with words?

The words go on and on until you realize there is no mind other than thought. The idea that the world is an illusion (but let me drop this brick on your foot ) then the world is not an illusion.

35:00 The illusion idea is referring to the mind. The mind is empty. But the mind is not empty when you are thinking “the mind is not empty.” Words and thoughts are the antithesis of awakening but you cannot awaken without words or thoughts.

Consider the old koan “What did your face look like before you were born?” And then consider “What did thought look like before it was born?”

The mind is empty.

A better world could hear that.

SEEK A SECOND OPINION

Everyone is born with physical quirks
which determine the temperament of their mind.
Your individual somatic idiosyncrasies
do not affect the fact that two and two equals four,
but they can cause you to dislike math;
your personal physiological peculiarities
make you either aggressive, or submissive,
but they cannot make your mind like the fact.
DNA determines your body;
your body determines your mind;
your mind is programmed to deny, or ignore this.
No ordinary, civilized, educated person lives with
a continuing awareness of this.
Any average mind can disprove this fact to its,
and its peers complete satisfaction:
human DNA programs men’s bodies to
direct their minds to do so.

Routine humans believe they actually have mental passions;
their minds believe they have a real emotional preference in all manner of non material matters — but they have none.
What their minds claim to be its passions are all just unacknowledged manifestations of their inborn physical quirks.
Furthermore: while not being aware of the situation,
ordinary minds accept these off-site-constructed,
faux mental preferences to be objective, qualitative judgments;
(obviously this is how life wants it to be,
or else it would be otherwise).
But if you can step off site yourself,
and get an arms length view of the situation,
you can see the curious results that sometimes result
there from which normally are either ignored,
or have become subjects of endless historical debate.

The most astoundingly overlooked feature of this affair
is mans total, unquestioned belief that his
qualitative judgments of life have any validity —
— any remotely reasonable, rational basis.
The small time examples are everywhere you look —
— everywhere that man speaks —
so common as to have become part of the scenery,
but consider now, just the big one —
the big, huge, gigantic, universal, all-encompassing,
totally inescapable mother-idiot-example of all
smaller-moronic ones,
the un countered, embarrassingly stupid statements
by men’s minds regarding:
What is wrong with life.

Run of the mill minds differ over the specifics,
but no ordinary man doubts the sentiment itself —
— that things are wrong with life — but,
COMPARED TO WHAT?!

What does any man have to compare life to?
Nothing in mans intellectual history asks this
glaringly protruding, and simple question.
Men’s minds certainly say what they do not like about life,
but minds do not see, nor label the expressions as being merely its instinctive preference, but rather
minds present such statements as being
objective, qualitative judgments.

All men obviously know what they don’t like that goes on in life,
but no man has ever known what, if anything, is
wrong with what goes on in life.
Man has nothing whatever to compare life to.
Any statement otherwise is normal,
(and apparently necessary for life’s purposes),
but such statements are insane on their face.
(Men’s minds attempt to circumvent this by pretending that something outside of life —
— the creator of life — a god —
has spoken to the minds of a few men,
and told them what is wrong with life,
the way men normally live it;
but this is all a game of pretend;
no ones mind actually believes such tales
since the mind knows that its the one that
made it all up in the first place.)

Once you realize this overall situation,
there arises something more specific & personal.
Everyone has complaints with themselves,
(their mind does);
every intelligent person realizes clearly
their own faults;
every reasonable man knows quite well
what is wrong with him — but,
COMPARED TO WHAT?!

Remember, we are not talking about your physical quirks,
we are talking about the judgments your mind expresses about what it finds wrong with you that are caused
by your physical quirks.

A man’s mind will certainly say what it does not
like about the man,
but it never labels this as being simply
an uncontrollable mental preference it was programmed with,
but rather the mind listens to its own totally subjective,
and automatic words,
and accepts them as being objective statements of fact.

Mind will unhesitatingly state what is wrong with you — but,
COMPARED TO WHAT?!

Your mind has no other you to compare you with.
Again mind tries to get around this by either referring to standards issued by deities beyond the confines of mortal life, or to rules of civilized conduct
commonly agreed to by mortals, collectively,
but the mind remains aware that it is the true source
of all such, and thus the unavoidable reality of
the question remains:
your mind believes — categorically —
that things are wrong with you, but —
COMPARED TO WHAT?!
…compared to what other you?!

No mans mind has any other you to compare you to,
or if you are ready to get down to it:
no ones mind has anything else whatsoever
to compare itself to.
There it is! — Right in your face!
Don’t keep droppin your drawers for that parrot shit about being:
Off on a search for The Truth — there it is!
You don’t have to go anywhere!
Its right in your face if you really want to see it.

No one has ever walked on this planet who has,
Known what is wrong with life — no one can even
know if there is anything wrong about life —
— much less, specifically what it might be.

You do not personally have to support,
nor be dragged unconsciously along by
collective mans common view of life —
as dictated by the genetic, physical quirks life places in men;
if you recognized what is above denoted,
then you have the inherent quirk that makes possible
an individual seeing-of-life that is not confined to the
noise of the crowd, nor the strangulation of
mechanical mentation.

No one knows IF there is anything wrong with life,
(much less what it might be),
and no ones mind knows if there is anything wrong
with them, (much less what it is),
because of the childishly simple & obvious fact that
no one has, or has ever had,
anything to compare life to,
and no human mind has ever had anything to compare itself to.

Put in the most possibly disturbing form:
no ones mind has any way to know if it is
asleep or awake, enlightened or not;
it says it knows what features of itself it does not like —
but beyond that — its all metaphysical birdshit .

unless you catch on

then it becomes great fun

…and a way to clear all those mental hairballs
out of your system.
